Hi
I finally convinced my mother to switch to mac, and suggested she get a new MBP. It arrived last week, the 15" 2.4 ghz, with the 8600 mgt GPU. I've recently been reading about problems with this video card. So, I have some egg on my face, in convincing my mother to switch, and then finding out about this problem. I've done some researching, but haven't found a clear description of the cards affected or dates. So questions are:

1. Are the defective cards on the new MBP's?

2. If so, would it be smart to return it (within 14 days) and wait for the next fix?

3. (dumb question) I've seen where some people have posted screen shots of temperatures. How does one access that info?

thanks folks.

1. As of now neither NVIDIA nor the OEM's are admitting any problems with it, but there are strong evidence suggesting that they are flawed.

2. It would be your call. I would lay off NVIDIA for the moment until they come up with something to back their claim that the 8400/8600M GPUs are not flawed.

3. Get the iStat Pro widget.

On a side note, temperature isn't everything indicating a faulty GPU. Graphic corruption, display freezes and graphic-related application crashes however are.
