I have a mid 2010 macbook pro that has a bad logic board. My dad graciously gave my his early 2011 macbook pro and I would like to swap my hard drive for his, as I just purchased a SSD will I need to format that hard drive or can I just swap it without loosing the information and programs I have installed?

if it will swap will I have to install programs again?

If you have at least Mac OS X 10.6.7 and newer on your HDD, the HDD will work in the 2011 MBP. No need for re-installaing anything.

Should be pretty straight forward. I found myself marveling over the engineering required to make such a stellar product with the hood off...good luck.
