I am running a bunch of video encoding and have all of them queued up in 64 bit HandBrake. The minute I started running the encoding, my i7 CPU usage went crazy and practically no CPU left for any other application. I look at the CPU usage for HandBrake and it says 350% ???? How can it run at 350%? Is it some kind of over clocking or is this normal?

Handbrake uses the two cores, which are able to have two threads per core, thus four threads are available, thus the CPU can be used up to 400%.

I was wondering about this too, did my 1st rip/encode last night.

Question: the iStat widget only shows CPU usage on a 0-100% scale, I imagine this is accurate regardless of how many cores/threads are beeing used? So that activity monitor's 400% = iStat pro's 100%?

What about other iStat apps, like the ones that add monitoring icons on the menu bar?

Mine as well. My i7 with 8GB does a great job, no problem.
