Hey, so I'm kinda new to the Mac game, and ever since buying a refurbished 2011 MBP off Amazon last month, I have had nothing but persistently periodic crashes. Apple care couldn't explain the problem; they said I have some third party RAM, which disallows them from servicing me.

This is a copy of my last Problem Report. It took me 10-15 attempts to successfully reboot after it froze. Can someone please help me interpret this? I'm lost.

You should've done some homework before buying it (caveat emptor applies).

The 2011 15" and 17" models are affected by Radeongate. Apple has a repair program in place for them.

Third party RAM isn't a problem, as the manual explicitly states that RAM and hard drive are user-replaceable parts.

It's actually more likely that it is either RAM-related or a hard disk-related problem, than it is a GPU problem, especially since it's the netbiosd service that is involved in the crash, and not anything related to the graphics subsystem.

Just because it's a 2011 MBP that is experiencing kernel crashes, does not always automatically mean that it has hit the problem mentioned in the service repair program. I'm not ruling out a GPU problem, but I'm also not about to state that the sky is falling right off the bat.

I would proceed with normal troubleshooting steps. First by putting back the original Apple RAM. If that doesn't fix it, then run AHT and test the hard disk. Those would be the first most likely suspects.

That may all be true...

But the recall program means that the OP can take it to apple and say is this the GPU and if it is they'll fix it.... If not then they'll diagnose it...

Either way it makes the OP's life a lot easier!!!!
