my macbook pro had some liquid spilled onto it, and at first i went ahead and pulled the keyboard out and give it a nice alcohol bath- i've done this before with other mac keyboards and theyve all been successful- never destructive :D

however, this time i was baffled with the results: the keys on the keyboard weren't only splitting out the keys they should have been, but they were prompting other things and characters that you can only obtain through character maps (things like UP arrows and strange symbols). even the , key brings up the preferences panel in text edit!

Anyways... with that seen, i figured i'd go ahead and order another keyboard for it- maybe this was the one keyboard i couldnt fix. so i got the keyboard in just now, installed it and booted up to osx and guess what? EXACT SAME PROBLEM. the only thing i can deduct from this issue is that some part of the keyboard port may have had some liquid damage done to it...

Any help would be appreciated :)

tl/dr- keyboard still showing strange characters on the same exact keys that were initially damaged even after swapping keyboard with a new one

Maybe the cable is shorted, did you replace the whole cable as well? Did you try booting into windows or a different partition and seeing if the problem persists there?
