You still have too many moving parts. I'd just put the optibay aside, put the ODD back and install the SSD. That way you're only variable is the SSD. If it dies again, it is something in your machine. If it works, great, then introduce your optibay again and see what happens.

I hear ya. As it turns out, it'll most likely be at least a month until I get a replacement SSD, so in the mean time, I have an opportunity to experiment a bit.

I have an old 160GB HDD that I pulled from my 2008 aluminum Macbook long ago. It's been doing utility duty for the last two and a half years with no problems. I decided to put this HDD into the optibay with the OS installed on it. Basically it's the same setup as I'd been running before, but with an old reliable HDD in the place of the SSD. I want to see if my system kills this HDD the way it killed the SSD.

so much for intel reliability

Bozz is installing these in an aftermarket optibay mount. Given this fact and no other reports of failure of this drive from users here, it seems more likely it is something about this specific configuration than two defective drives back to back.

Yes, very true. I don't think you folks should worry about he Intel 320. I think something in my system is the problem.

And just a quick note to the two SSDs I have killed so far. It's not our fault. It's not you, it's me.

I agree. Two failed Intel drives in a row seems a bit fishy. Something else is going on within his system it would seem.
