Hey, I was gambling with the thought of bying a large sized SDXC, but can't find any reliable information about the real life write/read speeds that can be reached with the internal sdxc slot. I've seen some reports that claimed that while the read speed is decent (up to 80mb/s), the write speeds are really poor maxing out in the 10-20mb/s range. Does anyone here have some practical experience with a class 10 sdxc (~90-100mb/s read, ~80mb/s write) which max speeds can be achieved with the internal sd card slot?
MBP 13 late 2011 High Sierra

I would expect the SD slot on a 2011 MacBook Pro to be "USB2 speeds" at best.
You won't get anything better than that.
Probably somewhat "less"...

You expect that based on what?
Link Speed shows up as "2.5GT/s" in system report. The card reader in the late 2011 mbp is linked to PCIe, not to USB like in the MBA 2011

As I recall, the SD card reader hardware is actually connected to a PCI express lane in 2011 MBPs, so could at least theoretically be much faster than USB2.

The actual transfer speed will likely be limited by the read/write speed of the card.

I was just hoping that somebody of the thousands of users here at some time used a fast sdxc card in his/her mbp late 2011 and could share some first hand experience. all the guessing and expecting is really not helpful, i can do that by myself perfectly. but i guess i really have to give it a shot by myself -.-

Hope this link from Apple helps: https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht204384

Apple states that the SD card reader supports up to 480 mb/s, however most SD cards will never hit that because they don't have any heat management and will likely be throttled to keep cool. I think the majority of my readings say anywhere between 25-50mb/s would be typical even on fast SD card speeds.

Also, I would caution that if you are planning on using the SD card as a second drive on you machine, be careful. I bought a used MacBook Pro once that had a fried I/o port because the lady used a Transcend SD card to expand the internal memory (on a 2014 MBP). On your 2011 model it would be better to replace the main hard drive if you need more storage space.

So I gave it a shot with a Samsung Evo Plus 64 gb SDXC. Out of the box, exFat I get 55mb/s write and 88mb/s read.
