I have been a long term Windows user, but am looking to get into the Mac world. I do some lightweight video editing in Premiere Pro. Only 1080 at the moment, no 4K. I also use InDesign once a year to design a program book for a local dance studio. Also, I use Photoshop and Lightroom for editing pictures off and on throughout the year. I understand Final Cut Pro is optimized for the M1, so I will likely make the switch.

Again, I don’t do anything that I see as major editing or heavy lifting, but is the 8GB MacBook Pro M1 enough? I plan to get the 256GB version and use an external SSD to keep non-active project files on.

Any input is welcomed since I am new to macOS.

If you're not doing any heavy lifting, it sounds like it's going to be fine.

Most of our understanding of RAM comes from its existence in Intel machines. It seems like M1 manages RAM better and faster due to its unified nature.
