Hi friends!
I have a 15" Mid 2012 Retina, MBP. It has 8gb of RAM and is still working like a top. I hate to take my 2019 MBP when I travel. 😎 So, I was going to upgrade the SSD on my old MBP and I spoke to someone that told me the MID 2012, Retina version was not worth the SSD upgrade. He said, I wouldn't notice any difference in speed, because that year the SSD's were unique ? That seemed change, but I also know Apple. Was this gentleman correct?

Thanks tons!!! 🙄🙄😵😵

Yes, the mid-2012 SSD is a SATA3 drive with a proprietary Apple connector.

The SSD in the late 2013 to 2015 MacBook Pro all use the same PCIe-based SSD.
