To me it looks like some repair work has been done and the tape is to help cover it up and protect it.
Yes, i think i too, but the question is, what kind of repair?im repairing macbooks but im never seen this before, i wanna know what is that 
How old was your MBP in the manufacturing cycle ? Was it one of the first ?
Seems to me it could be a version of the mobo that needed to be reworked with a new update - but had to be done manually. Mobos later than yours would have had the traces redone.
