Here are my 6 reasons not to buy C2D MBP now:

1- MBPs are hot, even after C2D. (Apple insists on calling them "notebooks")
2- Bad LCDs! Even worst than my son's $399 PC laptop's matte LCD.
3- No memory cards reader!
4- Need to pay for Leopard when it is released!
5- Megsafe connecters are not really safe!
6- No FAX!

I hope Apple can either solve these issues or lower the prices.

I just got my MBP yesterday...

1. It's really not that hot. I've had much worse sitting on my lap before. I would work my iBook pretty hard and it would get blistering hot. Your going to have heat in anything that is this thin.

2. The only time I notice any dim spots is when I first turn it on

3. People use these still? I don't mind a USB dongle out the side personally I only use one kind of card and I don't want apple picking only one to put in. I would hate having 6 useless slots

4. I'm a student and I'll get a big discount so I didn't care :)

5. I don't understand that at all.

6. Is this an OS X problem or a lack of modem? I haven't used a modem in 4 years. Apple is always one of the first to get rid of ancient technology (floppy drives for example).

Have fun waiting!

So by lowering the prices these alleged issues will go away?

Oh, and are you completely serious?

I've had my Merom MBP for 1 1/2 weeks now, and my take is:
1. Not hot at all - runs at lower temp than the 1GHz TiBook it replaces, with fans hardly ever loud enough to hear. MUCH cooler temps than Yonah MBP
2. Some people report problems - mine's the best I've had (and I've had a half dozen different notebooks over the past few years, including a 9-month old Acer top-of-the-line Travelmate 8204 - MBP screen is MUCH better
3. yep - but there's not much room to add it - I use a small-form USB multi-card reader
4. yep - could wait, but meanwhile, my time's worth something in lost production by NOT having a fast Merom MBP!
5. huh?
6. I bought the USB phone adaptor for the rare times I need to fax something (although I can't remember the last time I've done so!)

In summary: If you need a MBP, now's a good time to buy, since it's just had a good update. If you want to wait, do it!

1. i have CD and i dont even think it's HOT... it gets warm but i can let it sit on my lap to work with no problem
2. bad LCD isn't very descriptive
3. no memory cards reader is a good thing, if you want memory cards reader, either get a external one, or get a HP... i HATE memory cards reader on laptop, abs. hate, i think a lot ppl will agree with me on this at least
4. leopard will cost you what, 120 tops? with student discount, 80 (right?)? that's not much...
5. define safe
6. it's not an fax machine if that's what you meant... there are software for faxing IN OS X, sure there isn't modem, but i think modem port, if on computers now, is gonna be a port gets used the least

also

at least number 3,4, and 6 are not just a "problem" at this time... i doubt apple will ever put memory cards reader on their computer, and you'll always have to pay to get the next gen OS, and you'll never see modem port on mac as default

so half of your reasons aren't time dependent problems... do you not want to buy mac now or just never

1. No they aren't...Some MBPs are hot...mine isn't
2. No problems here
3. So what? Is this required on computers now?
4. So? what do you expect? You don't have to get Leopard, when it is released Tiger will still work
5. Yeah they are. Some have had problems.
6. What?! now you're just being silly

What a joker.

Number four is particuarly dumb. You're going to have to pay for Vista aren't you? Grow up for gods sake and start posting useful information that will contribute to a forum.

Why do trolls waist their time making posts like this? I'm always looking for good info and usually find it on these boards... this is ten seconds of my life I will never get back.

i think this might be a sarcastic post, am i right OP? i mean, "I'll have to pay for the newest OS when it comes out?" of course! that's just how things work.

and no FAX?!? whaT?

I USE memory cards and FAX in daily manner! I cannot WORK without them. You people are talking about "student" discounts! I thought Apple made MB for students, not MBPs!

Unfortunately, some of us are still shackled to this ancient technology thorugh no fault of our own.
While I don't fax, and when I do I use a fax machine, I WOULD like to call Apple out on the ******** they push with their USB modem. It ONLY connects at 28.8k, despite it being sold as a 56k modem.

I thought Apple made MB for students, not MBPs!

No. Computer offerings are aimed at price-points, not (necissarily) target audiences. Plus, one need not be a student to get educational discounts.

Sure I need to pay for Vista, but I didn't pay MS $2500+ for my PC laptop! Wake up fanboy!

Then go buy an external Card Reader and buy the Apple modem.

You didn't buy your laptop from Microsoft either, did you? You could have easily dropped $3K on a Windows-running Alienware notebook and still have had to bork out $300+ for Windows Vista Ultimate Edition.

Fargo, Noticed you joined five days ago and started posting yesterday. All of your six posts are negative. Mind telling us what computer you use/would like to use?

Seems to be a trend. The C2D MBP is inspiring an (IMO) unusual amount of new folks to register, complain, and then disappear.

Go buy a Dell and shut up...

The Zune fiasco seems to be drawing them in too.

As soon as anyone bandies around the term "Fanboy" on a mac rumour forum like this you can guarantee it's a troll of some sort.

Hah this is the funniest thread I've read in a long time, it really is.

1 - Metal laptop. Metal conducts heat. Show me a metal PC laptop and I'll bet it's as hot.
2 - Yeah, sure - no it's not. Though this could be a personal opinion I suppose.
3 - Yeah? So? Seriously, those things cost a fiver. Who'd want a thick card reader to bulk out an otherwise thin laptop?
4 - And if you buy a windows laptop you'll have to pay for Vista when it is.
5 - Explain
6 - Antiquated equipment - simple as that.
