Um no; if you climb the everest, or at least pretty high, you won't die because of the lack of pressure (though you might find it difficult to breathe).
Your hard drive however will die : The hard drive head requires an "air cushion" to hover above the disk, if the air pressure gets too low, the head will go down and scratch against the disk, damaging it.
A computer with a SSD instead of a HD shouldn't have any problems.

Is anybody seriously thinking about bringing a MBP up Everest?

I would be more concerned about the person in front of you reclining. It is possible to destroy the LCD if it gets caught in the seat. Just a word of caution. Hopefully you are flying Business or Premium Economy. The Economy seats don't have much tray space.

I would like to second this suggestion, particularly in economy. My lcd was caught by the seat in front of me once, because some kid decided to slam the seat all the way back suddenly. Luckily all was ok, but something one should definately be aware of.

Actually that's not correct. Mt. Everest is so high that humans without breathing apparatuses can only survive there a very short time and that's after Rigorous training to get their body to adjust to the high altitude.

They don't call it the death zone for nothing.

Well, it's kinda correct. It's not the low atmospheric pressure that gets you, but the partial pressure of oxygen above 25000 feet or so is enough that to remain at that altitude for very long without supplemental O2 is lethal due to the effects of hypoxemia.

If it were possible to drop out of a pressurized airplane onto the summit of everest without any acclimation at all, it would be pretty rapidly fatal, even if the goofiness/loss of consciousness didn't cause you to fall off the side of the world and die from the fall.

And you DEFINITELY wouldn't want to do this carrying a MBP. :D
