Anyone tried FCS on an intel mini?
Apparently Apple has. FCS (UB) installs on the Mac Mini (Core), but it doesn't meet the minimum system requirements.

Final Cut Studio is not supported on Mac Mini (Early 2006)

What that means as a practical matter, I'm not certain (maybe FCP works but Motion doesn't, for example).

Final Cut Studio's System Requirements specify an AGP Quartz Extreme or PCI Express graphics card, of which the Mac Mini (Core) has neither.

WOW this is huge news...that is really impressive and gives hope to what this transition will really bring (incredible speed) when the next line of chips, ie: the Merom Family, come aroung toward the end of the year. I'm going to get a new laptop Summer 07 as a graduation present to myself...I guess I can keep the Dual 2.5Ghz box around as an email machine :D

Well, that is stunning.

My college just got a few rooms of dual G5's too... guess they should have waited what... a few weeks? I love the mindset of schools. Still, can't wait till I get a MacBook in a few months. :D

The Quad will not be defeated! (I hope:eek: )

yeah, no way, not yet. the MBP won out, but only by a little bit. the quad is one a whole different level than a dual 2.0. It's going to take Conroe to take the crown from the quad.

O MY! After reading the entire thread, the MBP beat the DUAL G5 in every single test (for what I saw)...WOW, these MacBook Pro's are really speedy...

I am excited about what the PowerMac will do!

I agree with Sharewaredemon - lets keep things in perspective. The dual 2GHZ has been working productively in studios for over two years now.. so for a laptop to only just now catch up... well that's probably about the right time frame?

it done better with half the ram. in a enclosure 90% smaller, with less noise, heat, and power. I would say it didnt just beat the G5 it smoked it. And think AMD have had Opeteron's that match this speed and are pritty low power out for years and Athlon 64's too. Apple sould have switched to AMD when the Opteron came out instead of to G5, Dual Dual core 2.8 Opterons 65w or Dual Dual core G5 2.5 GHz 95w+.

I think the most amazing thing about this is that the Dual Two is like over 3 years old, and still holds up against a chip that just came out.

Good point Sharewaredemon. :)

Just shows how great the PowerPC G5 was (and still is). :)

That's a really great point. Thanks for pointing that out.

On the flip side, it's not great that apple is still selling a machine that's substantially the same as what they were selling 2.5 years ago...

True, but it has taken Intel & AMD this long to catch up with IBM and their PowerPC G5. But you are right, Apple selling a machine that is similar to the one(s) sold before it 2.5 years ago does not look good.

Which is why they switched to Intel!

Things are looking good for my iMac that will soon arrive. It will be faaaast, especialy compared to my ibook

That's what I was thinking when I saw those results.

The G5 holds its own.

The DP2.0 can't hold up against the Quad 2.5...we'll see what happens then. :)
