MBP SD Card Slot Can Boot OSX!!!

Sony is ditching their proprietary memory format because there is no reason for it.

That has nothing to do with the previous poster's comments. Apple has finally added an SD card reader (whoopdee doo! 🙄) but left users of other formats out in the dark. Before, with the ExpressCard slot, it was possible to insert a multi-format card reader that occupied only the small space allotted to the ExpressCard 34 slot. The poster commented that it would be beneficial to support multiple formats. Memory Stick may be dying, but it's certainly not yet dead and still widely used in the many Sony consumer digicams out there.

Apple has stated that Leopard can be installed onto an SD card in the new MacBook Pro's. Does anybody know if this is the case with an SD card reader connected to an ExpressCard slot as well?

Will Snow Leopard be able to be booted from an SD card reader connected to an ExpressCard slot as it will be from the built-in SD card reader?

Just read on ifixit that the SD cards don't sit flush. (Says they stick out almost .5") That's a shame. Was hoping I could keep a 16/32gb card in there for added storage.

I wonder if one could design a micro-SD or mini-SD card holder that would slide in flush? I've only ever seen the adapters the same size/shape as a regular SD card, but there's no reason I can think of they have to be...

Same way I get it out of my camera. I push down on it, and it pops up.

Maybe they could include an eject tool, like the SIM ejector that comes with the iPhone? I'm not saying it would be easy, and Apple should have just made the slot spring-loaded to begin with, but I'm sure someone out there can come up with something clever. 😀

Not that I know of. It is like USB 1.1 to USB 2.0. It is a bus issue rather than software. The bus can only go so fast. That's why you'd need a USB 2.0 card to get it on a 1.1 machine.

Yes, it would be useless in a camera. None that I know of use HFS+ (QuickTake?). Most, if not all cameras, use FAT32.

I'm sure it is possible, but it would be as slow as molasses in January. The SD card is going through USB 2.0.
