Ok, last week I put in a CTO for a MBP. It was delayed, but then shipped tonight from Memphis, TN. What's that all about? Every other time I've got a computer from Apple it came from China. Is that strange?
Nope. They have a number of places they do this, Sacramento being another location. For example, most of their software is shipped out of a warehouse in PA.... MacDann
So I'm guessing that means I won't get a new MBP. i'll find out tomorrow. it's an overnight shipment.
Fedex has a hub in Memphis, so perhaps it was sent in bulk from overseas, and individually unpacked in Memphis. I've seen this happen before. The first scan Fedex would have for your package would be when it was separated.
Yup. As a resident of Memphis, TN, we've got a MASSIVE amount of FedEx traffic through here. We have FedEx planes landing at the airport every, and I'm not exaggerating, 20 seconds.
I pass by that warehouse about twice a week... It's one of the highlights of going to my Aunt's house.
Yeah... i know. It's a replacement laptop that Apple is shipping me. I was just hoping for a positive experience with Apple... kind of a last ditch effort before switching back to PC's. Oh well.
So by implication if you get what you asked for that would not be a positive experience? It would only be positive if you get something that hasn't even been released yet? Hmm.
No, I've just had two MBPs that were the crappiest computers I've ever owned. Each went in for repairs 5 or 6 times. The replacement will be the third. I was hoping for a new MBP to help me actually, possibly want to have a Mac computer. If it's not a new one, I have no desire to keep it and will probably sell it ASAP (won't even open the box) and buy a Dell.
FedEx FedEx offers logistics services and can warehouse product in hub cities for faster shipping. Cisco ships a lot of gear out of Memphis warehouses for the same reason.
Well, actually they moved their World HQ to Collierville, a suburb of Memphis, but the shipping hub is still right in Memphis. It causes me quite a lot of traffic problems!
Yes, that's true. I've a relative who works at the Carrier plant in Collierville; he pointed out the FedEx plant there.
