My MBP has been stuck at Cleaning Up for 6 hours upon finishing a backup. I have not closed the notebook nor attempted to stop the Cleaning Up. It backs up over the network to a drive attached to the router. I have not disconnected the notebook from the network and in no way touched the router nor the attached drive.

If I click on Skip Cleaning Up will I lose my backup?

The backup took several hours because none had been completed in over 20 days and the attached drive is a slow usb RAID. Therefore, I would hate to lose the back up that just completed and start over.

I can now answer my own question. Out of habit, when I became sleepy while reading a blog, I closed the laptop. I woke up about 6 hours later and the Cleaning Up was finally completed. My Latest Backup was dated correctly. So now I know if Cleaning Up is in progress, I can close the laptop and the process won't be interrupted.
