MBP to HDTV

I connected my MBP to my tv via HDMI with the monoprice adapter. When I see the desktop on my tv, how do I make it so that my TV is the main screen so that I can turn off my mac screen.

The quick fix I found was to turn the brightness all the way down on my mac...are there any other ways to do this?

System Preferences > Displays >> Arrangement >>> Mirror Displays (but know, that the display with the lowest resolution determines the maximum resolution used on both, thus one display will have a lower than native resolution, except when both displays have the same native resolution)
