Ok, I've got the screen flicker too... I guess I need to take it to the apple store and get a replacement? computer was bought at christmas

It could be that people are interpreting flicker differently.

With the example page, there's likely to be flicker when scrolling that might be akin to what you get with pinstipe suits on tv.

But the sort of flickering I'm thinking of, that really shouldn't happen, Ive seen when loading any web page with a large image, often a background image.

And ITMS is a good guide as well - if you scroll around in that, and have the problem, you'll really notice it there.

cmon guys, the test the page and dont scroll the page!
if you scrool the page , i think all computer will flicker too.

just open the page and see wheter the screen flicker by it self or not, without you touching anything.

yes, mine flickers without scrolling.

Not only do I see mine flickering in that page without scrolling, but I also see that there is a kind of subliminal flickering that is more evident in white areas, like when you have a blank Pages document. I am yet to find a trigger for this, but it seems to happen when the MBP is on battery consumption mode and in low light environments, even if it still flickers in all brightness modes.

I still haven't tested it in the 9600M GT mode but I think it's pointless when such a flaw is present in the mode I will use more often (i.e., the "better battery life" one).

I am seriously thinking about asking for a replacement unit, as I have bought it less than 30 days ago.

My screen flickers terribly when SCROLLING on the website provided: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.php. But it doesn't flicker when the images are stable.

The website indicates that flickering probably indicates a "maladjustment" of the panel voltage. Hopefully Apple picks up on this and releases a firmware update sometime in the future to correct it.

No worries, normal.

My G5 is plugged into a CRT and LCD.

When scrolling the page, it flickers on the LCD and does not flicker on the CRT.

It's the nature of LCDs I believe 🙂

guys. it's a UNIVERSAL problem with ALL lcds.

Your LCD can only change the colour in it's pixels so fast, so sometimes when you ask it to rapidly and repeatedly change some 800 rows of pixels from grey to black or from black to grey (alternating, because of the pattern in that background) some parts of the display fall behind, and it makes that weird flickering.

Some applications suffer this problem while others don't. This is because some (Safari) attempt to redraw the window's contents smoothly, so you're moving it's contents pixel by pixel, while others (Firefox) will let the page jump a few rows at a time.

The point is, there isn't an LCD in the world that, when you scroll a pattern like that, pixel row by pixel row, won't have this problem.

Did you read the part where he said it flickers without scrolling?
Why do people keep talking about scrolling the image, when its clear thats NOT what the test is 😕

If the image isnt moving, then it should not be flickering

For the OP, could it be that this is a widespread problem?
I was reading another forum and came across this 'temporary fix'
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=351537

It flickers on both... my Unibody MacBook Pro & my new 24" LED Cinema Display.

I think it's a graphic card or OS X issue... and not the display.

My MBP flickers when the page is idle and I'm not scrolling.

On the test-page link, I can scroll one pixel up or down and 4a will flicker when still, then scroll one pixel up or down and 4b will flicker while still.

Both flicker in full screen. Mainly 4a and 4b.

I suppose what I'd like to take from this thread is whether or not this is a problem. Should we go get this checked out/replaced or is this normal for our MBPs?
