I think the uMBP have a much better battery in them as well. I had numerous problems with the battery/ sleep issues with the older style. With the uMBP I have had no issues. I bought the uMBP when it was announced, but a real test will be how well it performs when its 1 yr old.

EDIT: Your car analogy has some merit when you think back to the late 90 BMWs vs. some of the controversial designs Chris Bangle came up with. The 'Banglelized' designs certainly look more modern, but manybimmer fans were soured on what they felt was a lack of design congruence. That's definitely how I feel in this case. And I feel the 'classic' is indeed a modern classic.

YEAH! This is the best analogy I've ever heard. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the 1989 BMW 3 series:

How's the air up there on your high horse?

That was constructive... but if you really are curious, the air I breath is great.

The OP asked for some long term observations on using both the MBP classic and the unibody. That's what I gave him - my long term observations using a MBP classic. Are you OK with that??

People making the argument for a classic MBP is like telling you to buy a five year old used car to save money.

I'd have to agree, for the most part with this. The basic question was whether the OP should spend $1000 more for the new model, or get the previous one. So, of course saving money is the main rationale for getting the older model, while not sacrificing too much in return. A MBP with LED screen for $650, if it's in good shape, is a great deal. People are certainly free to make their own choices, but if it's feedback the OP wants... they're only opinions. I've got one. I'm sure everyone reading this has one. That's what we're here for, at least that's what I thought...

No, not really. What you did wasn't simply giving your experience. Half your post was belittling and brushing off of others' concerns and experiences. In fact, re-reading your post, I think you made it a point to devalidate the opinions of others:

Maybe I'll get hit by a bus. Who knows? We can live in fear of timebombs or suicide bombers or "evil doers" or cancer or the IRS or any of a huge number of gloomy prospects for our future. Just watch Fox News Corp, you'll get enough doom and gloom reasons to keep you busy for a while being unhappy, or you can just go on with life, take a look around at your immediate situation, and seize the moment.

Dude, his post was talking about his attitude towards the graphics card breaking down.

I've owned an iBook 600Mhz all the way up to the 2.93Ghz MBP and every generation sees improvements.

If you can afford it, the unibody is the way to go. the issues of the first revisions have been resolved and I'd recommend a 13" macbook if you can't afford the pro just because of the unibody. It's a fantastic machine and is rock solid compared to the 3 MacBook Pros I owned.

Sorry... not taking the bait! You're entitled to your opinion, and I gave you mine. :)

Thanks. I'm glad you understood what I was getting at. Cheers.
