MBP USB not working

My MBP's USB port on the leftside fades in and out for periods at a time. Any suggestions? I just purchased it a year ago, what can the Genious bar do? If they find that they need to service it, how do I make sure my data is safe?

your data will onl;y be safe if you back it up twice, on two different drives before you give it to the geniuses. they will likely replace the logic board and lave your HD in, but you never know, they may try reinstalling the system.

I always give my computers to Apple with a clean install with my data safely at home.
