when i hook up my display, it only mirrors. i'd like to be able to use it as the primary display with the lid on my mbp closed. possible?

    also, what's a good free anti-virus deal? :p

You have to go to Control Panel -> Display. In settings, click the screen that says "2", and then check the box next to extend my desktop onto this display. I'm pretty sure that's all that needs to be done.

If anyone has anymore, please add it on.

For clamshell use, you need to first connect an external keyboard and mouse (you'll need that to use it anyway). Then just hook up your external display and close the lid. Your laptop will go to sleep, but wait a couple of seconds and press a key on the external keyboard, and it'll wake up using the external display.

Remember, you also need to have the mains power supply attached.

And don't bother with anti-virus until the first Mac virus is found ... an anti-virus wouldn't do any good in that case anyway, and the Norton and McAfee offerings are crap, to put it mildly.

I occasionally run ClamXav just to reduce my chances of infecting other PC users. It's free, so what the heck...
