Hell all,

Early 2011 MBP 15" here. 2.2GHz i7, 4GB RAM, 1GB 6750m, etc.

Starting a new VFX course, software I will be using includes Mudbox, Maya, Houdini, Mari, Nuke, among others, etc.

I've been working in Mudbox and performance is just terrible. If there is anyone on this board that works in this industry, is this laptop worth upgrading to do this work? If I upgrade the RAM will that make a difference or is the GPU really the bottlekneck hands down?

Any 2 cents highly appreciated.

Haven't used Mudbox on it, but I have used the following with no problems in professional work at film rez.

Lightwave
Maya
Realflow
After Effects
Photoshop
Nuke

Get 16gb of ram, you need it for any of these programs.
