Also, check your credit card and see what they offer. Discover currently gives 5% additional cash back (on top of your normal cash back, AFAICT) if you click through from their site to the Apple Store (and of course, use your Discover card when paying for your MBP). For me, this will cover about half of CA's sales tax, so that's cool.

You cannot use two discounts at the same time. I just called Discover and was told that I could either use the 5% cashback or the apple education discount. The rationale is that the 5% cashback also comes directly from apple so they won't let you have it both ways.

Disappointing but true. On the positive side, you can still get 1% cashback when you use discover card.

For a 13.3 MBP + AppleCare + 8GB Touch, it comes to roughtly $15.00. Hey, anything is better than nothing. You can get a cheap case for your laptop with that much money.

^^ really??

I just ordered my MBP with the disco card and went through the education link after clicking through their website...

bleh... oh well i guess it still comes out better with the edu discount anyway.

can i buy a mac with edu discount
then go back to apple before the time expires
and use my edu discount for applecare?

I think so. I went to the education store and just added the applecare and nothing else to the cart. It was showing $183. So yeah, you can buy it later and still have education discount.

sweet thats a relief.. lol u have a year to add it right?

1845 dollars after taxes and edu discount is a steep purchase for a base 15"

lol but i5 and future proofing for the win

Awesome. Just make sure you don't forget to buy applecare before the year ends. In fact buy it as soon as possible.

How did you save that much? Apple's education discount on the 15" i7 MBP is $200 (price drops from $2,199 to $1,999).

Educational discount also provides a 10% discount to customization options. e.g. 4 to 8 GB ram on any MBP costs $360 instead of $400 with the educational discount. For the most expensive option, 512GB SSD, that's $1170 instead of $1300.

Nice! I usually end up buying refurb instead of using my student discount, but that's pretty awesome.
