My 2011 MBP volume seems to have lost some volume power. Is there a setting anywhere else that is a master set, other than the one in the bar up top.

When I use GarageBand the volume in that is infinitely louder than when I use iTunes through the MPB speakers with MBP volume all the way and iTunes volume all the way. Any ideas? Shouldn't they both be the same top volume levels?

Not sure if this will help because it sounds as if you're getting the expected volume from GB, but you could try resetting the NVRAM.
[...]Information stored in NVRAM can include:
  • Speaker volume[...]
After resetting NVRAM, you might need to reconfigure settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information.[...]

thanks guys, yes deffo much louder in GarageBand, is that normal do we think? I'd be very happy if iTunes was that volume from the inbuilt speakers, which as we all know are not the greatest, but sometimes it's inconvenient to plug in to exterior ones.

In iTunes, at the top menu bar select 'Window' -> 'Equalizer' and try adjusting the Pre-Amp. You could also play around with the EQ to make your music sound more crisp, bass heavy etc.

Thank you. I will check. I'm on an older iTunes so may not have these settings but will look when back shortly. Thanks

Thanks for this, much appreciated, I'd forgotten all about the EQ and the drop down iPod sound options for the EQ.
It has made a difference, it's not got that extra push that GarageBand has, it probably goes to '11' for that extra push... where can ya go? God bless Spinal Tap. Thanks again.
