MBP wil not burn DVDs

Hey guys- my friend's MBP will not burn DVDs, but will burn CDs. It reads DVDs just fine as well. Is the drive dying? Or is it something else? Here's the message we get when trying to burn DVD media:

We tried several discs. is it possible the whole DVD spindle is bad?

Oh dear that looks bad. Get it to the Apple store pronto!

I get random errors like that once in a blue moon, and it is corrected by a restart, but I figure that didn't work. Here is a discussion from apple's website about that problem, but it doesn't look like they solved it either. The only advice is to clean it with an air duster.

We just tried the DVD in my MB and it worked fine. Bad drive?

Lee, I've noticed the first thing to go when a drive is going bad is the ability to burn DVDs. Take it in.

Looks like a bad drive. If it's under warranty, take it in - they'll fix it.

I'm good enough with things to fix it for him. Applecare is a ripoff. I've done this before. No big deal. I had just never seen that message before. 😉
