MBP with Clamshell mode?

I have the 13" Macbook Pro that was released just after the 2009 WWDC, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if it works in clamshell mode? I know the old PowerPC Powerbooks did, so I'm curious if there's any point in me buying the external hardware.
