So MBP is about due for an upgrade. This upgrade will take place when Leopard is released. The only official word is that leopard will be released in the Spring. Unfortunately, Spring runs until June 21. The WWDC is June 11 and it is sure to be released by then. So the question becomes, can you wait until May or June for your new MBP?

I can't-- mine was just stolen, bummer. Why? when they really can't use it unless they amazing hackers...

No quad-core processors in any mobile road maps, neither AMD or Intel.

yea, no quad for the MBP, but Intel has a nice press release describing what you should expect in the next two years if you want to check it out.

However, we should see the release of an mobile extreme chip X7800 and X7900 clocked at 2.60Ghz and 2.80Ghz respectively. The only problem is the time frame given for these being Q'3 and Q'4 2007.

A new MacBook Pro featuring one of these procesors on the Centrino Pro (Santa Rosa) chipset along with a new mobile DirectX 10 (OpenGL 2.x) graphic chip ought to be enough to satisfy the crowd :D

I'm waiting. I want the computer in my sig!

Not quite true about no quad cores. The codename "Gilo" is supposed to be a 'multicore' mobile processor. To me, 'multicore' means more than 2, meaning 4. Now this probably means two meroms on a single die, so Quad 2.2 or 2.4Ghz. This however, would put it's TDP around that of Conroe, at 65W, much more than Merom's 35W. Therefore, almost certainly not for MB or MBP, but possible for iMac.

While I agree it is unlikely; the 3Ghz Intel Xeon was also not on the roadmap but it did appear in the 8-core Mac Pro:
