These things are just two round pieces of metal as far as I can tell, they can be pushed around with a toothpick or removed completely. Which makes the magsafe finally fit like a glove and stop being lose-ish. But after removing them, the magsafe port began making a weird static noise, like electricity, so I put them back. What are they? Anyone else have them?

Lol those definitely aren't supposed to be there. I work for an APSP and see paperclips stuck in MagSafe boards all the time. Try to *carefully* get them out or if you're nervous about doing that, take it into an Apple Store and they'll get them out for you. If you continue to hear the "static noise," definitely take it in.

They are movable because they are only held in place by the magnetism, I don't think they are any parts, my MBA doesn't have them...

No It's the charger out of the box, and the mbp showed up from amazon with those on there already..... I only hear the buzzing noise and the magsafe gets hot if I take them off... What is the heck?? No one else has these?

Nope. I suggest taking it in to an Apple store to get it checked out. I've never seen this, lol!

So I popped off both mystery metal discs and it connects without being wobbly and is charging but when I scroll up and down webpages with two fingers, it's as if I can hear the processor working, except the sound originates from the magsafe. What were those two things there for anyway? I can't be the only one.

It sounds like your machine is not properly grounded when you remove the pieces. However this is very weird since this is not how the MagSafe looks like normally. Did you buy a used machine off Amazon?

It was new on Amazon supposedly. This is exactly what I bought. this thing

All the packaging was normal.

That photo doesn't look "New" to me. Looks like it's been used a few thousand times.

Well it didn't have any marks when I first bought it... I've used it all day long for about 3 months..

----------

Someone out there knows why, on a brand new rMBP, that there are two tiny round discs stuck there by magnetic force alone and why the magsafe is not properly grounded without them.

For now I will leave the mystery discs alone, but I know more people will be discovering these on their own devices.

Proof that it's new.

I would contact Apple about this issue.

No point in having us trying to figure this out since none of us has seen this before!

You're under warranty, so have Apple take care of this.

Odd. Have you used a snuglet or something along those lines?

No.. They were there since I bought it, because the first thing I noticed was the loose connection and inspected the magsafe port and saw the two metal disks.

So, have you taken this computer to Apple to have it checked out yet? (Or at the very least called them)

I think they are just metal debris held there by the magsafe magnet.

I agree. Here is what a normal port looks like:

It looks like that port has been arcing for a long time. I would get those out of there right away.
