Hey everyone,

So my MacBook Pro 2014 is not starting up past the apple logo with progress bar. It makes the chime and shows the bar loading until maybe 1/16th-1/8th where it stops loading. I have been able to start in safe mode but nothing changed after I restarted it. I was also unable to boot under another partition or load options when holding the option key on startup. Does anyone know what I could do?

Thanks

Sorry if this is already here but I searched and am unfamiliar with the new forums layout.

***Edit*** upon installing a few updates on safe mode it now loads to a bit more than 1/4 before stopping.

I need to ask for a little more information to see what else can be tried. What OS do you have? What updates were you performing? What bootable OS is on the partition (I'm assuming it is on the internal drive)?

The startup disk OS is Yosemite and I have a partition for windows 7 which doesn't even show up. I was just able to try disk utility in safe mode and it is saying "S.M.A.R.T. Status" is Failing. It's suggestion is to back up as much as possible and replace the SSD. I can't however access my windows partition to back up. How is it that I can boot under safe mode and not under normal if its a SSD issue?

Safe Mode prevents many items from loading.
Here is a link with more Safe Mode information:

What updates were you performing?
If your SSD is failing (which it may not be), is your 2014 under warranty?
What do you already have in the way of back ups?
EDIT: Do you have an empty external HD that we can use to back up to?

I had been backing up via time machine however less periodically under windows (no easy solution). I believe the issue accelerated too quickly because I can't see the logo anymore under any of the startup options, safe mode, recovery, internet recovery...ect. I'm assuming my only option now is hope there is a way they can recover information before they replace it or does the Apple Store do that? It's under warranty until 2017 so I'm covered for that at least.
