MBP'09 giving low battery back-up

I've been using my MBP'09 (13", 2.26 GHz, 2GB RAM) on SL for the past year and a half. The battery life has plummeted considerably. Coconut Battery shows just 79% of the total battery life 🙁 . Is this normal depreciation?

Please recommend measures to improve the back-up.
