Hi guys
I've had the MBP 16" for a couple of months now. Today I got a 4k 60Hz AOC monitor.
I had previously bought 2 usb adapters for my macbook, both had hdmi, one of them has 1, the other one has 2 (and also a DP).
Both worked perfect with a 1080 TV :)
Anyway, I went ahead and connected the monitor to the DP usb adapter I have, and noticed that it was working at 4k and 60Hz (great), video didn't lag and everything seemed smooth, until I noticed my mouse would be smooth and suddenly stutter, it's kind of annoying because it's not constant, it's like every couple seconds it jerks (meaning I move it and visually I see it jump from start to end instead of moving from start to end).
I tried my other usb adapter (the one that only has hdmi) and it outputs 30hz only at 4k (doesn't seem to stutter though).
Also tried changing resolutions (using switchresx) and also scaling factors, but no dice with the DP adapter.
And also tried both HDMI ports on the usb adapter that has DP, but the mouse continues jerking.
I'm at a crossroads, don't really know what to do :(
This are the adapters I had bought
Thanks in advance for any advice :)

PS: Forgot to mention, when I get that stutter it happens with an external mouse or the trackpad, and the weird thing is it also happens on the macbook's own display!

Have the same issue with a Satechi hub.
Works fine on tv, hdmi to pc monitor stutters every few seconds.
Apple support said that my monitor was too old or that I should buy an Apple adapter....

It works flawless when running windows with bootcamp so I guess that the drivers are ****ed in macos.
Report it to Apple.

I need help with this also.

I have the same issue with my MBP 16 as well. I have tested it with different mice, different screens, and against my old MBP. The issue is with the MBP itself. The mouse will suddenly not move as expected and well either not move enough or way too much in a big jump.
I’m in the return window and given the issue with ghosting, gpu panics, the mouse, and speaker popping it is obvious that Apple has fallen far from its old reliable days.
I’m not going to spend $2400 on a laptop that has so many potential issues. Will go down to a cheaper model and just expect to have to upgrade more often.

Ok... so a weird thing happened. I left the computer (with the 4k monitor connected over DP) alone for a while and now it works correctly.... WEIRD

I'm using the Cable Matters USB C to DisplayPort 100W adapter (not a full hub) with my LG 4k monitor and I've never had a stuttering issue.

Ok, so this is software related, I just bumped the usb hub and my screen went out, when it came back it had the stuttering again, left it like that for 5 mins and now it doesn't

Yep, just wanted to confirm this, it happens sometimes, usually when the monitor has just turned on (usually after sleeping or starting the machine), stops doing it after some minutes (with 5 minutes it's usually enough)
Hope it's just a bug and it gets resolved on a future version of macos

Happening to me too. Video of MacBook Pro Skipping. I can't seem to get this to stop unless I don't use my external monitor, or only use HDMI which is 30FPS... It only happens with USB-C plugged into a USB-C Monitor (LG 43MU79-B). When I use HDMI it doesn't happen. I just noticed this after updating. I really don't want to roll back to a previous version of MacOS.
Absolutely unacceptable for this machine.

Does that skip disappear after 5 mins of use? I ended up not noticing this much with "usual" usage of the macbook

I'm using a DisplayPort to USB-C adapter and never noticed any stuttering. For a brief period I've connected my external display via HDMI but I don't remember mouse stuttering. The display run at 30Hz so I switched to DisplayPort in order to get 60Hz

I have the exact same issue with my new 16" MBP when connected to a 5K LG display. It makes working really frustrating.

In my situation the cursor will behave normally for about 5 seconds after connecting the display, then stutter momentarily twice every 2 seconds. It doesn't happen when other, older MacBook Pros are connected to the display, and the cursor behaves normally when the 16" MBP is connected to a 4K TV via HDMI.

I did find that the cursor moves normally when booted into Safe Mode, for whatever that's worth.

@jmsmuy do you have issues with HDCP video on the external display? Whenever I try to open a video with DRM, like a movie in the TV app it will show as a black box on the LG display and be normally visible when the window is dragged to the MBP display.

I'm not sure if watching netflix on the external display uses HDCP, but I can. Let me know if there's some kind of test I can do.

Yeah, could you try Netflix? I have same issue there… it'll show black when on the external display and be fine on the built-in display.

Netflix does work, and it always did, so probably it's another problem (or a combination of)

Maybe this is off-topic but it's regarding stutter via bluetooth.

I had big issues and can have it sometimes again with connected bluetooth devices to my Macbook pro 16. The fix for me where/is to factory reset that specific device - from there is work flawlessly.

Hopefully it helps someone.

I had this on a 2018 MBP 13", with devices attached to a Hub. I switched to Bluetooth keyboard & mouse after doing some searching on here and no more stutter!

Issue happened with included trackpad as well as external usb mouse

I'm having absolutely the same problem. I've described it here: yet another thread.
There are also two screen records and research.

I am also facing the exact same issue - here are my specs:

MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)
16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
2,6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

I just switched from a 2017 MacBook Pro 15 to a MacBook Pro 16 - I had no issues at all with the 15 inch mac, with the exact same cabling etc.

also tried all the other suggestions, fresh install, reset NVRAM, and everything else. Nothing helps. This is extremely frustrating.

Whenever a non HDCP compliant monitor is plugged in, or there is any HDCP handshake issue, the below log will be shown continuously:
/System/Library/Extensions/AMDRadeonX6000Framebuffer.kext/Contents/MacOS/AMDRadeonX6000Framebuffer
Code:
19:53:46.916991+0800 kernel [3:0:0] [HDCP:3] runEvent() !!! Action is stall currentTime: 162560171947197, nextTime: 162560371941098, crtc: 3!

And the cursor will be stalled for every 2~3 seconds.
If you are having the same problem, please help submitting the feedback to Apple via https://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html (or is there other better channel for this?)
Just hoping when there is more vote, it will be fixed finally in the future macOS update.

p.s. My workflow consists of non HDCP compliant monitors, and I don't play copy protection content. So yes sometimes replugging HDMI cables or replacing the a better HDMI cable can solve the HDCP handshake issue, but I don't think this lag should happen in the first place. It is not happening on the Mac Pro 2013 (D500 x2) or Mac Pro 2019 (Pro Vega II x 2).

I have the 2-3 stutter constantly when my 4k QNIX UHD3216R monitor is connected via a DP => USB-C StarTech cable to my 16" MBP. I'm on 10.15.5.

It happens with all input devices: the builtin trackpad2, an external magic trackpad2 via lightning (bluetooth off), an external magic trackpad2 via bluetooth (lightning unplugged), an external USB mouse. This leads me to believe the bug is in the part of the code responsible for updating the cursor on the screen, rather than the part of the code that's responsible for taking in HID inputs.

However, I'm unable to see the HDCP log message in the Console Log. How did you search for it? When I search for "ANY:HDCP" with the "MacBook Pro" device selected in the top left, I get "Console (0 messages)".

QNIX UHD3216R is known to have HDCP v2.2 handshake issue, and there is no way to force downgrade to use HDCP v1.4 or v1.3 unless you use a HDCP cracker (which doesn't support 4K usually)

I just search HDCP in the Console.app, even if I don't filter anything, the hdcp message keet flooding and can be seen directly
