If you already have secured the software, there should be an install process (.dmg or .pkg files).

Agreed. Pointless and almost all antivirus suites bog down the system without much benefit.

It's not an essential requirement to have antivirus on your Mac, I don't have any and so far didn't have any issue. Apple is doing a great job on security and protection.
However, if you are used to working on public wifi, I might reconsider extra protection.
