Avid reader of this site for 10 plus years. Can you please turn off this McDonald’s full screen pop up ad. It’s insanely intrusive and makes trying to read the site on mobile overwhelmingly frustrating. Especially when the same ad pops up over and over while I’m reading the same article.

Appreciate all the great stories. Thanks.

Right there with you. Sometimes it’ll pop-up within a few seconds of being closed….

Actually, you have a point. I should probably give them the $50….. I’ve been coming here for years, and years……. and years. Time to pay up 😀
I can say that it is worth it. I never had an account, decided to register one last Sunday and directly paid 50$ to get rid of ads and support this.

Seems like you're in the same boat, looking at your join date, welcome!

The MacRumors FAQ has information about this problem:

What do I do about annoying ads?

MacRumors uses an advertising service that supplies ads from a pool. We do not select the specific ads shown or the specific advertisers who participate.

If you find a particular ad especially annoying, post a screenshot in our Site and Forum Feedback forum and tell us which URL it links to. If we know that, we can ask to have it removed from the ad pool. We appreciate your help in reporting them.

You can also use the Contact Form to send us screenshots and URLs of annoying ads.

I've been getting this on my phone, it's annoying as hell because it keeps popping up if you scroll so far. I do remember the owners of the site not liking full screen ads so it could be a mistake.

It's becoming extremely difficult to read articles on the site. It's not just the full screen ads that pop up and take over everything, but over the last week I've started noticing many different ads that reload and resize themselves. You can be a few lines into reading an article and suddenly the article jumps up or down to accommodate an ad thats resized itself. you scroll back to try to find your article, continue reading and then 10seconds later it jumps off screen again, but in a different direction. You have to scroll up and then down to try to find where everything has gone. So frustrating and distracting.
It's much worse on iOS than on MacOS.

Well since MacRumors is being OBNOXIOUS with these hostile-takeover pop up ads…..the new iOS18 feature for hiding items seems to serve a purpose :)
This dumb ad completely taking over every 4-5 on-screen taps is super irritating, please reduce the frequency

This is the single best feature added to iOS/iPadOS in years. So awesome to finally get rid of all those 'disable ad blocking' popups.

I have a piHole but it can't block everything or ads that are 1st party.

I was able to work around this by setting Safari to request the desktop version for this web page. I haven't seen the MacDonalds ad since and honestly can't tell the difference between the desktop and iPhone formatted pages.

Register on MacRumors! This sidebar will go away, and you'll see fewer ads.
