I had that issue with a 2018 15". I ended up returning it for another because Apple didn't seem to have any answers beyond their usual diagnostics. Are you still within your return/exchange period where you are able to swap it out?

Do you have a handheld temperature sensor to measure the external heat?

Yeah that’s a bad sign of warping, head spreader heats up warps and flexes which causes loss of contact which cause even worse heating up and freezes or slowdowns. Clearly the guy at Foxxcon in China did tighten or glue down something properly.

Mine would ramp up at random time for no apparent reason and would bounce off 100C until I shut it down or reboot. Apple went through their SMC/PRAM stuff online and set me up an appointment at the Genius Bar, they ran a diagnostic and it came back OK, but then it did it for them as well and they couldn't figure out why. So they swapped it out.

If they didn't know what was wrong it with I sure wasn't going to figure it out :)

Yeah those diagnostics are pretty worthless. If I have a issue than can be duplicated I just show them. My old MAcBook Air would freeze and half the display would work. They insisted on running a Diiagnostic which said everything was fine.

The only heat related thing I've noticed on my 2018 15" is that it is warm sometimes in the AM when it has been asleep all evening. It has to be something with the USB-C displays and not sleeping correctly. When I have it plugged into the apple supplied charger it's always cold in the am.

So I purchased the Apple+ care for 3 years. But if I am outside of the US, like Europe or Australia would they still take care of that?

My wife is about to test Apples customer service this morning as her 4 day old 2018 MacBook Pro she has for work has an extremely loud fan that sounds like the laptop is about to take off! She bought one for personal use with her business and it’s been fine but her works machine which cost around £2700 is clearly faulty.

As it was custom spec’d it’ll be interesting to see if Apple can fix in store. If they can’t then it’s going to be a problem as she can’t be without a computer with her job. Not sure what the policy is for handling faults on Macs as it’s not like an iPhone that can be swapped like for like?

Apple does not give out loaners.

If it is only 4 days old she is within her right to demand a refund giving her a choice of buying another of going elsewhere.

I know my fan did run a bit when I first started my 2018 MBPro 15. Was not that loud and after months is now near silent unless I do something to stress it.

Apple were unable to diagnose the problem after an hour running diagnostics. They agreed the fan sound didn’t sound healthy but the activity logs didn’t pin point a fault. My wife has been advised to go back if the sound does not calm down or go away. The guy was apparently very thorough and helpful but she has come away unhappy that she got to put up with the noise. At least it’s not her personal laptop I suppose lol.

Hello,

I hope you already fixed your problem. But if not, then I'm pretty sure the heating up is caused by the grammarly extenstion you got on your safari. Hope this helps!
