.mdi files

My uni lectures are put online in mdi files which are Microsoft Document Imaging files.

Does anyone know of any software to read them on mac?

I spent an entire evening looking for mac software to open this but everytime I ended up with nothing until I finally found a forum post saying that no such software exists...
Microsoft's "alternative" to pdf is of cause Windows only... surprise, surprise...
