mDNSResponder: continuous downloading around 70kB/s

    Hi there,

    using an app called Net Monitor I can see around 70kB/s continuous downloading going on. Little Snitch tells me it's mDNSResponder, to something called 00000000F1d21E.local. I've disabled/enabled it, restarted the computer and also router, switched from Ethernet to wifi and back all to no avail: it comes back each time.

    Any ideas what might be the cause and solution? I'm on a recent MacBook Pro, 10.6.6. Thanks!

    mDNSResponder is a component of the Bonjour networking API. It's an Apple-provided component of your system, so while it's not hurting anything, that amount of network usage is pretty high.

    There's an article here that discusses deleting the OpenDNS settings from your System Preferences on your machine, and letting your router handle the DNS requests (skip to the update at the bottom):
