awwww, it's such a cute cow... it looks like it was trying to bite :p like how horse does when you hold a bunch of hay up to their face, try to snap it.. but it's such a cute cow...

I grew up in the countryside, and I know not to approach large (except that was a pretty small and skinny looking cow) animals without carrying a large stick
It's obvious that the OP does not know how to approach an animal in a non-threatening way, nor read the animal as he approaches.

Of course this begs the question of why do it in the first place.

I wont lie. I was apprehensive going up to it as you can tell.
I did not think it would do that. I jumped on the car for safety I wish they had got that part on video.

I thought it would knock me off my feet or and walk over me and hit me with its head. Serves me right though. Its a great memory and I have no regrets.

America's Funniest Home Video's might get you some cash for this one. :D

The reason my hands were up is because I was scared so I was trying to move slow and careful. Why did I do it? I had been driving around for hours in the mountains trying to find the waterfalls and I saw the cow. I was bored and I pulled over to say hello. I cant really explain what prompted me to do it. I was in a goof mood I suppose having fun on my trip. Its not everyday I see a cow on the side of a road.

Yeah but that is no reason to have a "cow" over it.

OK flinchy, I'll share

I'll admit, I understand the urge. I'm a city girl, grew up in L.A. I know nothing of this sort of thing. When I had a chance (on a farm of someone we know) to get close enough to a cow I walked up and gave it a pet. The thing just stood there chewing its cud and let me. There were about 6 or 7 other cows in there too. I got a single MOOOO out of one of them. I remember thinking their fur was not as soft as I thought it would be, that they are quite huge and that they smell bad. Otherwise they were pretty cool.
There were calves there too, being bottle fed. The farm owner convinced me to bottle feed the one of the little things, it was really cute actually. It got a hold of my finger and didn't want to let go, that sort of freaked me out. I felt for the momma cows, whoa.

So I guess my cow experience was an easy one. but I don't flinch or scare easily either. <shrug>

I know the feeling. In places like the Smokey Mountains, animals have little fear of humans. How we react to the "wild" in situations like this is telling in many ways.

That's a small cow to be running from ;)

We have beefalo's in florida... better, safe meat ;) as well as plenty of domestic cattle too.
