Quite incredible that whilst PowerPC no longer has a dedicated, working Youtube app, AmiTube is providing the goods even on a 14Mhz 68020 powered A1200!

AmiTube allows you to search Youtube, then the video is quickly transcoded into whatever format your Amiga is equipped to play.

My Amigas are long gone so I tried it out in WinUAE....

Nevermind minimum Requirements 68000 Version: 68000 OS3.0 8MB RAM MUI 3.8

I'm running Kickstart 1.something on my A500, OS and ROM upgrades are not yet planned on any of my 16bit machines.

I always found the A500 a bit primitive - no easy expansion, whereas the A600 and A1200 had an easy HDD upgrade path and a PCMCIA port.

I don't miss the hardware and config woes though - it's nice to have endless variations within an emulator.

If AmiTube works the same way then it can probably survive too.
AFAIK AmiTube relies on a server at the developer to do the heavy lifting.

Even the wget based download tools do require constant maintaince as Youtube changes the format every once in a while.

That workbench screenshot brought back a few vague memories.
My Amiga 500 'low-end gateway drug' ;)(now long gone) certainly provided the daily fix necessary for myself and young son. Very fond memories! I still have a Sinclair ZX81, Spectrum and Oric Atmos packed away somewhere.
