measuring how much time i spend working with an application

Is it possible to set some kind of a timer in specific applications im working with, in order to see how much time i spend in working on projects? Say for example im designing something in illustrator, is there some way i can find out how much time designing takes me? Are there apps like stop watches that can be set to begin when working in illu and to end when i stop using the program?
