Media Player stops playing movies

I have a macbook and am running Mac OS X 10.6.8. When i download movies and place them onto my USB drive they will not play the entire movie in my WD Live Media Player. They do play in my buddies player though.

The size of the movies are generally 1.4GB and larger.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
