This little device is great for those who don't want to keep a lot of movies on their device or can't access the cloud – I have tons of mp4’s and like to take a lot on trips where I know I’ll have little, poor, or no Internet connection. I just bought one of these Lightning connector uSD devices for offline access:

I put an exFAT 256GB uSD card in it, loaded with mp4’s and it works great. Access for video streaming is very fast, unlike a similar device I tried before that I returned. One limitation – it can only play files less than 4GB in size (I emailed their support to question this). Access is through the vendor’s app. It works so well that I bought a second one for my wife’s Air 2. Having pass-through charging available is a nice extra (though oddly it takes a micro USB connector, not Lightning, on its power port).
I also tried JPEG, Canon RAW, Excel, Word, and PDF files and the device and app are able to handle/open all of these formats. It also provides capability for export to other apps.
As a side note, I also use a RAVPower wireless FileHub that I can plug my 4TB HDD into and stream video form (no size limitations).

At $40, both of these units are relatively inexpensive and provide great capabilities. As a result, I don't store any videos on my Air 2 itself.
