Anyone here who has attended this workshop at a local Apple store? Is it worth the hour spent, or is it really basic material you can discover quickly by yourself?

I am keen to know also. I am a creature of habit and do what I do with new tech and probably don't use it to it's full potential. It would be interesting to see if this adds much.

If you know how to use an iPhone, I'd skip it. It seems to be intended for people who are unfamiliar with the OS. They'll probably show you how to type an e-mail, browse the web, buy apps, etc.

I attended one the weekend my 3G arrived. The session was well planned, informative, and useful, but I had to teach the guy presenting it two things about the iPad, which I found amazing.

I had no iPhone experience before getting the iPad, so to me it was very useful.

I would recommend it to anyone new to these devices but as someone else pointed out, if they have touch screen experience it may not be of use to them....

At my Apple Store, it was called: "Meet your new iPad, Dork".

    I decided not to attend.

First off, no I have not gone to one of these sessions. That being said, I probably would have had I known it existed. I am a relatively new iMac owner (since Feb) and a new iPad owner. I had a basic idea of what to do with an iPad, but while searching through the App Store, I found an iPad Hints and Tips app. Free download, so I was all over it. Must say, I learned a few useful things. Not to mention that I always learn a ton of stuff in this forum. If someone could combine all the knowledge in these forums and teach a mid-level course, it would probably be worth the price of admission.

    In my world
    All kidding aside :)

I purchased my Father a new iPad and he is a person who does not use a computer and still just recently purchased his first cell phone (dumb phone) so he knew nothing about Apple products or how to use anything.

He found the session very helpful and it probably saved me countless hours of explaining and helping him learn how to use it.

So I think it was worth it b/c I did not have to spend quality time with him as I did when I was young :) (boy that came out wrong) you get the point tho.

There you go. He was their target audience. Kudos to Apple. Those of us on this forum are not meant to attend that session. You'll learn more hanging out here an hour than there. But for an older person, it'd be great.
