Memorial Day is Monday. And for some of us, it doesn’t take a holiday to honor the fallen.

Life doesn’t stop because of past events. Just because someone buys something on sale right now, that doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t care about the fallen.

No need to be angry and make a post like that.
I don’t fault the people who take advantage of the sale, I fault the company who capitalized off dead soldiers.

I think Veterans Day sales should be for veterans only, and there should be no Memorial Day sales at all. But it’s a free capitalist society, so they can do what they want.

The best deal is when people don't buy items they really don't need.
I tried telling my girlfriend exactly that!

It did not go well for me.

Those veterans, bless their hearts. They fought and sacrificed their lives, so that I could get a 10% discount off that Apple Watch band!

I get what ya'll were trying to do with the red, white and blue graphic... but it looks like the French or Netherlands flag.

Not quite as bad, but it's sorta like those President's Day mattress sales.

Yes...thanks Mr. Lincoln, Mr. Washington, Mr. Jefferson, Mr. Adams, etc...for your great achievements in founding our nation, I want to humbly thank you for allowing me to buy that cheap mattress on this day! ;)

And honoring the loss of our veterans who sacrificed their lives should be at the top of the list on Memorial Day. That being said, I am also going to look and see what sales are going on as well. I think most of us here can probably multitask that day.

I picked up a $10 Insignia wireless iPhone charger that works perfectly with the 8 Plus. Apple deserves credit for cancelling AirPower and letting market forces work.

Nice try, but it's just another example of retail taking over a holiday dedicated to the veterans and sacrifice. Just like Thanksgiving has become a joke, now we have Memorial day sales. Sad and ridiculous.

The sales aren’t stopping anyone from honoring the fallen. Those complaining should try focusing on their own actions and not worry about what other people might not do.

Many people do things t don’t like. However, I am not about trying to control and manipulate others into acting how I think they should act, so long as they don’t infringe on my rights. That is what this Republic is about.

A law against retailers using the theme of a holiday that has nothing to do with selling in their advertising. Seems legit. They are basically exploiting an opportunity without consideration for what the day represents.
No can do, that'd clearly violate constitutional rights.
Just don't shop on Memorial Day, and kindly encourage others not to. It's up to you, not up to retail.

The sales are pretty disrespectful. He's not manipulating, only criticizing. I'll be afraid if lawmakers seriously consider taking action against sales.

I just wish they'd do that for the charging cables. DRM on cables is kinda criminal. I'd even concede and pay the $15 for an Apple cable, but they always break, and the stronger MFi ones randomly stop being "genuine" sometimes, so I say screw it and buy tons of $1 fakes.

Yeah I think it's pretty exploitative. But I get why he's defending it, Macrumors is an affiliate so they get a cut of the sales.

I am not defending MR. I have no affiliation with MR outside of my membership. I am defending common sense and the ideals this Republic was founded upon.

No one has been stopped from honoring the fallen as they see fit this long weekend. People that are against this type of commercialized capitalism are free to go about their personal lives aa they see fit.

Freedom is invoked in many different ways by many different people. To suggest, (as some have in this thread) that one cannot and should not focus on anything else this weekend but the fallen, is the very antithesis of what this Republic is about, in my opinion.

I honor the fallen and those that serve every day in my mind, heart, and actions. I don't need the government or anyone else to mandate to me what specific day it should happen, or the narrow parameters some think such an event should entail.

Like I said previously, I may not agree with what some people or businesses do from time to time. However, I am not necessarily going to go out of my may to try and make others feel bad, because they are not engaging in a preference I engage in. I respect other people's rights to live their lives as they see fit. And people can honor the fallen this long weekend and still purchase items they want. To suggest it is disrespectful is illogical and falling on the sword of personal preference, which is subjective and rather meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

My 2012 MacBook Pro finally bit the dust this morning, when it took over 10 minutes to log in. I used the sale at Best Buy to get me a new MacBook Pro.
I honor the soldiers who did not make it back home by fighting for our rights to live as we want to live and to limit wars that make more dead soldiers.

Your sentiments are well intended but this is a bit over the top for me.

I don't think the issue is that these sales in anyway prevent or distract people from remembering the fallen it whatever way they see fit, it's the fact the corporates seem to have no problem in exploiting the day for commercial gain. I wonder how people would feel if companies started doing one-day 9/11 sales?
