My freind has a memory stick that he is using. It is a PNY 2 GB memory stick. He can not delete things off of it.

I have tried many ways such as disk utility to delete things off of it.

I cannot change any permissions because it says that I can read only. When i look at it, it does not look like the locked sign is ticked but it is grayed out and I cannot change it or format it.

    Please can you help!

    I am really confused.

    Sounds like it's formatted NTFS

    Unmount it/Unplug it.

    re-boot

Plug it in and use disk utility to format it.

Are you sure it's not ZFS formatted?

Pressing option key while deleting takes care of many of these locked items. Other thing that have helped me so far is to erase it in disk utility using partition scheme. I know it might sound fuzzy but I would partition it using MBR scheme and it just work fine after that.
