I have a 2012 Mac mini with 16 GB memory (2 x 8 GB PC-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM) and a 2011 MacBook Pro with 8 GB memory (2 x 4 GB PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM). I want to give away the Mac mini and keep only the MacBook Pro.

Can I swap the memory of these computers so that the MacBook Pro has 16 GB and the Mac mini has 8 GB? I would not care if the Mac mini gets a little slower, and I understand that the MacBook Pro would not be able to utilize the higher speed of the Mac mini memory; I just would like to have the 16 GB in the MacBook Pro.

Swapping the ram modules should be okay.

I recommend performing the swap and then testing each unit to ensure that there are no issues with a fresh install of high Sierra, updates, iTunes, Safari, etc.

The 16GB of memory currently in your Mac Mini *may* run at 1600 in your MBP. I am running at 2133 in my 2011. You should not have any issues with swapping them. I would suggest running a geekbench memory test before and after the swap on both machines.
