H&M (a UK clothing chain) are now selling men's mascara. What distinguishes it from women's mascara, I don't know. Probably the packaging... MaxLash etc. ;)

Anyway... just how ready are you to take it like a man?

Mascara for men is now on the high street. H&M stock its own £3.99 brand. In the men's section. For men. Not hidden in a corner, but next to the V-necked jumpers and polo shirts. Seeing it last week, my reaction was like vertigo. I knew I shouldn't go nearer, but felt somehow compelled. My wife said, "You've worn makeup before. Don't you remember that wedding last summer? You moaned about looking pasty so I put bronzer on you."

The male cosmetics market in the UK is driven by men wanting to look younger and smell nicer, according to research company Mintel. Mascara's recent rise, though, comes from the punk/goth revival, agree trends expert Martin Raymond at The Future Laboratory and Aly Hazlewood, Russell Brand's makeup artist.

I bought some. One. A packet. A bottle. I don't know what you call it. It's tough putting on mascara. It doesn't come with instructions. But if women can put it on in front of a carriage full of people on the move, surely I could manage it standing still at home, alone? I soon resembled Rambo in war-paint. You have to use both hands, hold steady and brush up. You can't do it with your mouth shut. It's like applying glue to your eyes. That's why women flutter their eyelids. If they don't, their eyes will get stuck shut.

hmm, well only if I'm also wearing lingerie and I have red lipstick smeared all over my face. Oh wait, wrong forum... ;)

In my days treading the boards I've worn a bunch of different make-up stuff. Mascara was the worst, difficult to put on, stings when you get it wrong and in the grand scheme of things does f*ck-all.

No, I wouldn't wear mascara (or any make up for that matter) by choice. But then I hate the feel of even sun cream on my face and wearing that isn't a matter of choice here.

No mascara for me thank you. Blergh.

Nyet. I don't use any cosmetics as it is. I'd need to start with hair products before I could graduate to mascara...;)

....But you should make this a poll!

Erm, no. But I know some blokes that would if magazines like GQ said it was fashionable.

I think it'll have a market... but not exactly sure if that market shops at H&M. Doesn't exactly strike me as a major goth/emo kid hangout. I'm sure there will be the odd bloke who will take it on outside of those niche markets, but it's definitely not for me.

Moisturiser? Fine. I have no problem spending £30 on an Origins tube, and I always pay out for quality shaving goods. But mascara is not for me...

Would and have, plus spending 12 months on Interferon which has the side effect of making the hair on your head fall out and your lashes to grow commonly referred to as Llama lashes, some glass wearing people have had them grow long enough to touch there glasses, groovy side effect.Incidently I've also shaved of my eyebrows which caused some interest.

Not really... my eyelashes are long and beautiful enough already. ;) Anyway... it's a bit too emogoth for me.

Though I am partial to a little bit of glitter and eyeshadow on a friday night out, especially the overdosing red eye look. :)

Why should girls have all the fun anyway??? :(

Does it come with THE Lube? :p

Sorry, with all the mentioning of the lube by MR users, I had to say it for the sake of belonging to the forum. :D

Nope, no mascara for me neither.

No, I'm more likely to turn up smeared in engine oil than makeup. Just not into the whole prettifying thing.

When I was really young, girls would tease me about wearing mascara. Like my eyelashes looked so good, full, or whatever girls think.

Since I was a young boy, i really had no idea what mascara really was, but asking mom got me the info I needed.

From then on I always just said "you're just jealous I dont NEED mascara!" to anyone who thought I was wearing it and felt the need to point it out.

so, would I wear it? No, never.

And if would, i dont need it! :D

i'm too old school for that. i'm just a big ol hunk of lovin as the women say. i'm all man! i'm t-shirt and jeans.

I wore mascara once before while modeling. It was horribly while they putting on (my designer did it herself). But it was cool..... I wont wear mascara unless it's modeling or acting.
