I liked both screens, but the air is much better.
You need to go to a store and have a look yourself.

I would get air+screen. No hassle like "oops, the file that I need right now is in another computer".

I am confused why everyone thinks the screen is so much better on the AIR over the MB. From what I read, it looks like that is it's weakest feature. The lines issue seems to be very common

The screen IS better on the AIR over the MB, assuming neither are defective. Now the lines thing is a defect. If you get a defective one then exchange it for a non-defective one.
