i bet there is an easy fix to this but im yet to find it yet only really noticed this since ive had my 4s
when im on a call and a text message comes in, the message tone of the text basically takes over the ear piece, so not only can i not hear the other person talking it nearly deafens me

please tell me there is a way to stop this?

If you are using headphones it will always have the sound play. If you are using the phone without headphones it will play the text tone if the phone is on loud. You need to turn your phone on silent (vibrate).

well thats stupid, surely it would know your on a call and thus make the message tone quieter or off until you end the call then it bleeps etc

It is stupid, but it's the way it is :(
I have r2d2 scream when I get a text. It's cute when it's on the desk. It's less cute when my ear is bleeding. I have basically made it a habit of flipping the vibrate switch when I know my call will be longer than a few minutes.

This annoys the hell out of me too. I get email alert tones as well when i'm talking on the phone and I hate it. Is there no way to not have it do that short of using the vibrate settin?
