Is this how it's supposed to be? When I get a Message (iMessage, sms, etc.) the tap and sound for the notification is exactly the same as an email notification for mail. I find it very annoying considering I get far more emails than messages usually and have to look at my watch for every notification to determine what exactly the notification is for. The notifications for both on the iPhone are distinctly different by default (how I have it set up). Is there any way to change this on the watch?

I'm not aware of any way to change this. It's all the same for me with the exception of Twitter (which I had to turn on audible notifications on the iPhone to get the haptic feedback on the watch) where I use Prominent Feedback. So for normal messages, email, etc. I get prominent followed by two taps, but on Twitter I get two taps, prominent, then two taps again.

My guess is that because it's not an Apple app that prominent needs a trigger, hence the two taps before it kicks in, outside of the normal routine. A bug, or lack of integration, however you want to look at it. Maybe there's a way to leverage that, (untested) but if it works the same in the gmail app for example, you would definitely feel the difference. Just a thought.

This is interesting. I don't use the twitter app, I use tweetbot, and the notifications I get from tweetbot and ALL 3rd party apps is a tap with a buzz (sort of a micro-vibration) afterward. For messages, emails, and other built-in Apple apps, I only get a tap.

When I had prominent haptic turned on, I got a vibration and then a tap for messages and emails only, and my 3rd party apps were the same with the tap then the buzz.

I would LOVE if we could set prominent haptic for messages only.

Don't have mine yet (later this week, the Apple Gods and UPS willing), but customizable haptic feedback for individual contacts or apps is my number 1 requested feature in wOS 1.1

I use Tweetbot and a few 3d party apps for messages like WhatsApp & FB Messenger and hadn't noticed the buzz ! I'll have to "listen" more closely next time ..

Are you using prominent feedback? That's the only way I notice it.

The prominent haptic is a strong vibration BEFORE the tap. The 3rd party app buzz more of a micro vibration AFTER the tap.

Yes, please read my initial post above to see how that's factored in.

No , I don't but I guess I'll probably have to turn it on

At least for me with the Twitter (or third party) app it gives me a double tap, then prominent, then a double tap again. The difference is like night and day, very easy to distinguish, in fact it dictates whether or not I even turn my wrist to read it.

So, I get a ton of emails and don't want to get tapped on the wrist and alerted about 'it's my Birthday so there's Donuts in the area next to QA' (in fact I think I could filter that exact phrase with no regex variations a shed a lot of emals)..

..anyway, I set up my phone to deliver banners and sounds only to VIP list folks and this filters what I get notified about on the watch.

Works for me :)

For the installed Watch apps (and hopefully for 3rd party ones in the future) you can turn off either the haptic tapping or the sound. The way I have it set up is for phone calls and messages I have both enabled. For emails I have only tapping enabled. As I said - I am hoping in a future update that this will be enabled for 3rd party apps also.

I may be missing it, but where do you set this? I get the haptic and sounds for messages, but not for e-mail. Sounds only for e-mail currently...

I wish they had the custom vibrations and the like also, but you can notify only for certain mail accounts and/or the VIPs. I have only the work email and VIP to cut down on the crap notifications. :)

In the watch app in the iPhone, go to notifications, then select the app you want to customize notifications for. You are most likely mirroring your iPhone for emails and messages (that's the default), so switch to "Custom" and you'll see the options appear.
