messages app takes long time to load on 10.10.3

After updating my iMac and macbook air to 10.10.3 I find the messages app takes a very long time to load. This happens everytime. The app bounces more than 20 times on my dock and even slows down the remaining processes. Has anyone else faced a similar problem and if so are there any fixes?
